couture collections that totally killed it last week

Ah the couture collections…only a handful of houses participate, every stitch is hand-stitched by no fewer than 15 highly skilled artisans, and every detail makes you go, "Ooooo." There were two trends that surprised (and excited) us at this season's shows: spring-like hues and flats. But not just any flats…flat sandals! For fall! Cray. And although you won't see these two Winnipeggers strutting around in sandals this fall (il fait froid!), we're definitely excited that more of our spring/summer pieces will transition into our favourite fashion season.

CHANEL-- Good ol' Uncle Karl, you never let us down. This stunning collection featured some of fall's biggest trends: purple (colour of the year), metallic's (still going strong, we love metallics!), basket weave (we've been noticing it everywhere), and of course (the runway models must be in heaven) flats! Mix these with Chanel's classic tweed, some fine suiting, a little glamour and couple of our fave models (Lindsay Wixon and Sasha Luss) and you have a kind of perfection that only Mr Lagerfeld himself can achieve! Swoon.

Okay, so maybe we're a little too obsessed with this man, but maybe we're just as obssesed as we should be and you need to be a little more obsessed...think about it.

VIONNET-- The resurrection of this extremely famous and historical couture house has been a much bigger success then a certain other newly revived coture line we know of…you know who you are.  Madeleine Vionnet was a designer and innovator so it's no wonder master fashion innovator, Hussein Chalayan, is knocking it out of the park! (And he's found his glamorous side.) Since Vionnet is famous for its pleats we were happy to see an abundance of them in the collection along pops of coral mixed with classic navy, black and white!

VALENTINO-- Sixty-five!!! 65 couture pieces (one of a kind handmade!) and not a dud in the group! We're loving the leather wrap belts that graced the waists of nearly 60% of the runway models and the grecian wrap flat sandals. MGC and Pier P are the dream team.

GIAMBATTISTA VALLI-- Where do we begin? The head wraps, the glasses, the stripes, the spring-ish florals, the 50's style dinner uniform tucked into an ombre million-tiered ruffle gown-like skirt!! This collection was beautiful--every look--head to mother-flippin' metallic toe.
