Squeeeeee! There's an Yves Saint Laurent movie and it's being released in North America June 25th! How did we not know about this?! It has already been released in Europe! This is amazing because Yves Saint Laurent is, well, amazing. And his life story is pretty exceptional. We're so excited!
Here's a clip of young Yves (cast perfectly, we might add) proving his creativity to Christian Dior:
The film has received endorsement from the late couturier’s former partner Pierre Bergé, who also ensured that all the clothing and drawings featured in the film were the real deal. Yesss! I knew there was a reason we liked you, Pierre! His foundation loaned the production 77 vintage outfits from their archives and allowed the director to film certain scenes at their headquarters, where Saint Laurent’s design studio has been left intact.
“We never loan out clothes, so each one came with a handler. Someone from the foundation was behind each outfit and the models were not allowed to sit down. It was very complicated, but we did it,” Bergé told WWD. “I lent him the clothes on several precise conditions: that we got to pick the models, hair and makeup.” Atta boy, Bergé!
We've both written essays on Yves. Yah. Essays. Multiple. So we're ultra excited to sit down with a giant bowl of popcorn and soak up all 106 minutes of YSL! Here's the the official trailer (which, btw, is mega intense):
